Grand Opening of Pletten Railway

Grand opening of Pletten Railway. Large garden railway. Large garden railroad. Grosse Gartenbahn

Last weekend a friend and fellow member of our Model Railway Club, Thomas, invited to The Grand Opening of his new and large extension of his awesome garden railway named Pletten Railway. Pletten Railway is located at Thomas' cottage by the coast and has it's own Facebook page and YouTube Channel, and I really recommend

you to pay the links a visit. The weather was sunny and perfect for this great premiere.

This is part of the original layout:

The new extension of the line surrounds the estate:

Here is a 'cab view' video of Pletten Railway:

The guests were making their trains ready in the fiddleyard:

There was even enough live steam locomotives for a small 'Steam Gala'. I usually don't have many running photos of live steam locomotives as it takes so much attention just to drive them:

Thomas is also a 3D-designer and 3D-prints a lot for his garden railway:

The house is a 3D-printed model of Thomas' Grandfather's old house. Everything else in this photo is 3D-printed as well.
After running trains for a while we needed a break, and our friendly and generous hosts served food most suitable for such a lovely summer day:

After a most delicious meal it was time for running more trains again, and they was running until late evening when it was getting dark:

Later it became so dark that it was difficult to spot the trains along the line, and my grey Heeresfeldbahn became invisible due to it's grey camouflage, which was very effective. So at late night it was time to 'park the trains' and have a 'debrief'.

We stayed overnight, and the planned to run more trains on Sunday morning. But this plan was cancelled due to heavy rain. We enjoyed a better breakfast instead.

Thank you Thomas and Elaine for inviting us to your Grand Opening and for your warm hospitality!

    1. Thank you, Alan! Every thing was perfect on this day out.
I'm looking forward to follow the progress on your own garden railway adventure. I have some friends who's into 32mm gauge as well, and a couple of years ago I re-gauged my W^D Billy to run on one of their layouts.

Agree! Too bad I don't have so many lights, or hardly any at all, on my military trains. I understand why they were painted gray, because when it was getting darker they was 'camouflaged' and impossible to see. I only have lights in a locomotive, and a brazier (in my witer-train). But I do actually plan to rebuild a LGB-wagon in which I plan to put light in. Time will show. I'll certainly write a blog post about it when I finally comes around to it.
