The Sarpsborg Culture Festival was arranged in the Centre of Sarpsborg last weekend. Sarpsborg is the the city where our Model Railway Club is located, and it was suggested that we could put together a small stand to exhibit and promote 'Garden Railway Modelling' next to and together with the stand of the local Garden Society in the High Street.. The request was accepted, and it was another opportunity to run some trains again.
Some days before the Culture Festival some members from our Model Railway Club meet at the work of one of the members and created a 'mock up' of pallet collars on the parking lot outside:

Judging by the numbers of spectators and visitors through the day, this seemed to be a popular stand at the Culture Festival. Some of them came back several times:
Here are some impressions of the trains we were running. I'd been running my German Heeresfeldbahn Diesel at so many outings lately that I opted for my British War Department Live Steam locomotive. Besides Live Steams are a really 'eyecatcher' for an audience not into model railways:
Making a (temporary) Garden Railway on Pallet Collars, was an easy, cheap and fast way to create the 'benchwork'.
This year was the first time this Culture Festival was arranged in Sarpsborg, but it's decided that it will be a similar arrangement next year too. Well, we already have a temporary layout ready to assemble and exhibit.
An excellent advert for the hobby. Wouldn’t be surprised if you have made some converts to scale and outdoor modelling.

Thank you Alan. That's an interesting idea. We invited everyone showing interest to the hobby in general to visit us at our club during our club meetings. We're building a H0 scaled layout at the club so we should be able to offer something for the most. So we hope that we perhaps managed to recruit some new possible members.
DeleteNice pictures and videos Roger - well done to the gentleman who built a level surface on a sloping street 👍👍👍
ReplyDeleteThank you MJT. I will pass it on and tell him as we're on another (modelling-) tour togheter this week. 🙂
DeleteWonderful way to spread the hobby! I can't imagine anyone not wanting to stop and watch model trains!
ReplyDeleteThank you John!
DeleteProbably only the brassband in the video 😉
A great way to promote the hobby, especially being placed next to the garden society.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the short video clips - children were obviously taken by live steam although my favourite video was the trains running with the marching band in the background!
Thank you
DeleteI think most children was taken by the railway nonetheless what we were running as after spending a lot of time there, wathing,
many returned to our stand with their parents later on. We even let some of the most eager ones run trains on their own.
Thanks for reading and commenting.
Virkelig bra, skulle gjerne vært innom. Veldig gjennomført.
ReplyDeleteTusen takk Nils!
DeleteVi kommer nok tilbake neste år, så velkommen skal du være!
