After Pixar became a subsidiary company of Disney, Disney released several Pixar items thru their shops. - Even the green Army Men from Toy Story. I guess they were made to look like classic Tim-Mee's. And even Tim-Mee made a bucket of soldiers looking confusingly like the Disney/Pixar one.
I did find one of the poses from the 'bucket', but he was super expensive, covered in crystals from Swarovski:
I also found some tubes, no buckets, of soldiers in the shops. They did not look like anything from the Toy Story movies, as they looked more knock offs of old Airfix 54mm British Paras, copied to the unrecognisable, priced at €15 (!)
I don't know why they sell these clones and copies instead of 'the real deal', but unless the Toy Story classics in the bucket are back, I don't think Disney will be amongst my future suppliers of Army Men.
The old bucket of soldiers is vastly different from the newer version. The newer version has several poses that are brand new. The never figures look "different" in general, like they were their own brand. The old ones, however, are just Tim Mee clones, like you said.
ReplyDeleteGreat post.

Thanks Luciano! The new ones now available are just knock off of Airfix' 1:32 scale British Paras copies and cloned to the unrecognizable. Similar figures are usually available through Pond- or Dollar- stores much cheaper than what Disney charges for them. Disney wouldn't accept at knock off of Mickey Mouse, so I wonder why they accept such a sub quality substitute for Toy Story Army Men?
