Last running session in 2025

Last Saturday Heine invited to a Boxing Week running session in his garden. I've been working on some new 'winter loads' which I wanted to try out even if they were still WIP. I'll cover the loads them self in another blogpost when they're finally completed, but I wanted to capture some 'winterish' photos of them for that blogpost despite there was no snow yet. It had stopped raining and we had cold weather for some few days and it kind of looked a litte 'winterish'.

A lot of people attended to this 'Boxer Week' running session, both railway modellers and visitors:

It was just a frozen turnout, just like in real life

WDLR

I've written on this blog before that I've got fewest photos of my WDLR live steam locomotive under steam and videos while running than any other trains, due to it take so much attention running it. This day out both my sons were joining and driving a train each. This meant that I could finally capture some photos and videos of my WDLR while running:

A short brief...

It looks like Heine's de-icing train is leaking as there were no ice around that tank car.

It's really 'backbreaking' to run trains in the garden...

This was the 22nd running-session in Heine's and Astrid's garden in 2025. I haven't been able to join them all, but there has also been other 10 running-sessions in other members gardens throughout the year.

Thank you for inviting us over Astrid and Heine and for your warm hospitality.
My wife posted some photos and videos from this great day out on social media and received feedbacks like "Where is this Magic Place"?
-And a Magic Place it truly is!

  3. Impressive set up. I don't now if I could cope with that snow. Here in Victoria, Oz we have some 30C + days coming up when I'll be bushwalking.

    1. The set up or layout belongs to a friend. Luckily he keeps inviting us for running sessions.
      It's even colder here now...

    1. Thank you Peter. Let's hope we'll get some snow soon so those ploughs can be put into action.

  6. A great end to the season or start to the year. Dastardly sabotage in one photo!

    1. Thank you Mark. I haven't seen them, but I suspect there is a group of small 'scale saboteurs' going rouge in Heine's garden as this is far from the only railway sabotage. Perhaps I need to put together an armed 'anti-partisan' train?? I don't know if such train was even made on narrow gauge lines as they were on standard gauge. If you want to use the 'sabotage photo's in a 'blowing up trains blogpost' feel free to use it.

  7. This was a superb post, Roger. Loved the video, and your grey supply train photos really caught my eye! What scale was the black-red engine with two green carriages (photo 34)? Will make a note about this post for future reference. Thanks for uploading!
I was expecting you to report you were under snow conditions in Norway. We have just had a few days of very light frosting here but snow in the South West is normally in February/March, if at all.

    1. Thank you very much Michael.
That black and red engine is a standard gauge German Class 18 by Märklin. It's made to Gauge 1, which again similar to 1:32 scale, which we who are into toy soldiers knows as 54mm.

It was mostly frost on this day out. But when we finally gets a little snow I'll guess we'll have another day out.

    2. Ah, wasn't sure if the script was referencing the train below it. The black-red looks very elegant!
